Hey my name is Bishop.

The first semester taught me how to write in a professional manner. English 1301 reinforced and strengthened my ability to write in a way that is less repetitive and more meaningful. The class forced me to make ideas unique and words specific yet concise, otherwise I would not get the best grade. I did not do as good as I would have liked to in English 1301 but English 1302 is the place for me to fix it!

Not only am I excited to learn new ways to write, but also to apply my new writing skills from 1301 in a way that has real world use. Argumentative writing and debating in general is excellent for spreading ideas and reaching agreements. I think that reading and analyzing plays such as Hamilton and Macbeth can lead to interesting discussions in class and I am very excited to see how we will argue about main ideas or metaphors hidden within the plays themselves. I don’t feel like we have practiced many rhetorical techniques in class YET… but I am very excited to see how we can use rhetoric as a group to evolve our ideas.

Discussion leads to a natural development of thinking and I believe this class will not only teach me a new way to write what I think to be true, and how to argue my opinion, but also help me develop ideas and evolve as a person by listening to others as well. I want to learn how and why we use rhetoric and arguments to evolve our ideas and learn.
